Protected means that no direct connection to the CDN could be established. Compare the counter in the icon of LocalCDN. If the number does not match, the connection may have been blocked by an adblocker or firewall.
Unprotected means that a request was (unfortunately) successful and the CDN returned the HTTP status code 200.
